Welcome to the Sci-Fi Factor Homepage!

This webpage has been created as a resource base and collaborative tool to support our eighth grade interdisciplinary study of science and language arts.

Mrs. Hunt's science classes are examining physics concepts, determining the scientific basis of some works of fiction, and revealing the fiction in a variety of science fiction stories through critical analysis.  Science articles are being used to determine the credibility of ideas, theories, and assertions presented in selected fictional pieces.

Ms. McCarty's Language Arts classes are studying Science Fiction as a literary genre, and exploring the universal themes and social-scientific concepts revealed in the works of prominent sci-fi authors.  The author's craft is being examined as the reality presented in the stories is juxtaposed with the actual laws of physics and the knowledge we have available to us about the universe.

In both classes, the importance of perspective in writing and the close analysis of information to determine fact from fiction are being emphasized.

This wiki page contains information about the genre of Science Fiction, curricular elements of our study, links to additional resources and supplementary information, as well as the opportunity for students to creatively contribute to collaborative pieces.  Wiki technology allows members of our 8th Grade Team community, given a password, to add and edit content on this group collaboration.
